Documentary Screening with Q&A: Un Fandango en Carolina

Join us for a screening of "Un Fandango en Carolina," a collaborative documentary that tells the stories of the diasporic Sotaventino community in North Carolina through music, memory, and community collaboration. Created through a partnership between Iximché Media, Son de Carolina, and Duke University's Bass Connections project "Storytelling Our Latinx Community" and the Fandango de Durham, the film follows the relationships, traditions, and shared creative practices that emerge around the fandango-a participatory community gathering centered on music, dance, and collective celebration. The evening will include a screening and Q&A with the filmmakers and research team, followed by a reception with food from La Vaquita Taqueria. This event is part of "We the People," a Duke and Durham collaboration marking the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence through public events that examine the nation's evolving identity. Drawing from the opening words of the Constitution, the project invites us to consider who "the people" have been and who we aspire to be within the ongoing story of the United States. This event is free and open to the public. All are welcome.
