Young Scholars Parent and Student Orientation

The Young Scholars Parent and Student Orientation is an information session preceding the Young Scholars Summer Research Institute. The Young Scholars Summer Research Institute is a three-week program that provides high school students enrolled in Durham Public Schools (DPS) with training to enhance their writing, research, and presentation skills. The program is sponsored by the Samuel DuBois Cook Center on Social Equity at Duke University in partnership with Durham Public Schools (DPS). In keeping with the Samuel DuBois Cook Center's central mission as a community of scholars engaged in the study of the causes and consequences of inequality, program participants explore curriculum related to the economic, social, and political dimensions of inequality. Orientation Date: June 1st, 2024 Time: 10:00 am - 11:00 am Location: NC Mutual Life Building, 11th floor ( 411 W. Chapel Hill Street, Durham, NC 27707) During the orientation, students and parents will: - Meet fellow students and program staff - Learn about the program schedule, activities, and final projects - Sign all required program forms - Participate in an engaging Q&A Session Please bring: - A pen and notebook - A parent/guardian - Any questions you may have Parking & Building Instructions - Please make sure you park in front of the building in a visitor parking space - Once you enter the building, the elevator will be just past the security desk - After entering the elevator, press the button for the 11th floor and someone will greet you once you exit the elevator.
