Amanda Kelso, Ed.D.

Assistant Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and Executive Director of the Global Education Office

Amanda Toler Kelso is the Executive Director of the Global Education Office and Assistant Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education. She has worked in the field of international higher education for close to three decades. She has a B.A. and M.A. in Spanish (UNC-Chapel Hill), a doctorate in higher education administration (NCSU), and a graduate certificate in Technology and Communication (UNC-Chapel Hill). Kelso has held leadership positions in international education professional organizations at the state, regional, and national levels, and has been with the office she leads since 1997. Her primary interests are study abroad program management, student safety and well-being, and intercultural learning.

Catherine Angst

Director of Communications

Catherine Angst is a communicator with over a decade of experience in higher education. As the Director of Communications for Undergraduate Experiential Education, Catherine drives her strategy with insights from data analysis and market trends for the Global Education Office, the University Health, Safety, and Security office, and Duke Immerse. She specializes in digital communications, social media marketing, and video production. 

Before joining Duke's Undergraduate Experiential Education team in 2019, Catherine worked for the Duke University Center for International and Global Studies, where she led communications efforts for the University’s 13 area studies centers and initiatives. Beyond her experience at Duke, Catherine has worked in the non-profit and entertainment sectors. 

Catherine has an MA in Technology and Communication from the University of North Carolina and a BFA in Film and Video Production from the Rochester Institute of Technology. In her spare time, Catherine enjoys spending time outdoors and challenging herself with new cooking techniques.

Hayley Broadhead

Experiential Learning Coordinator

Hayley Broadhead is the Experiential Learning Coordinator for the Division of Experiential Education. She advises staff and faculty on best practices for experiential learning within the Global Education Office and supports internships, research, service-learning, and project-based learning for study away. She values collaboration and seeks partnerships between the Division of Experiential Education and other practitioners within the Duke community.

Before joining Duke’s Division of Experiential Education in 2017, Hayley worked at the Duke University Karsh Office of Financial Support and previously was a K-12 public school teacher. Having worked in the field of education for over 17 years she has observed the marked educational gains students make through experiential learning and seeks to build pathways that support equal access to opportunities.

Hayley has an M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration from North Carolina State University and a B.A. in English Teaching from Brigham Young University. She is an avid reader and enjoys learning more about the world through books. Frequently you will find her playing tabletop games with friends and family, absorbed in listening to music, and spending time outdoors as much as possible.
